What Moves You? Find Your “Why” for Plant-Based Wellness.

In today’s demanding world—juggling work, life, and family—finding the motivation and discipline for consistent health can feel impossible. That’s why relying on fleeting desire is a mistake. The key to turning wellness into a lifestyle is finding your profound WHY—the purpose that trumps everything else.

I’ve been a fitness and nutrition coach for over 20 years. I’ve seen countless people struggle because they focus only on the workout, ignoring the deeper purpose and the importance of plant-based nutrition. Even as a lifelong trainer, I have days I don’t want to be in the gym!

So, what has kept me focused on my health for over three decades? I know my why: I value being strong, functional, and fueling my body with the cleanest vegan protein. That powerful combination always outweighs my lack of desire on a bad day.

As the face of The Militant Vegan, my personal commitment reinforces our brand’s mission: promoting clean ingredients and a clean planet.

That’s my story. Your trick is to find yours.

  • Is your WHY the pursuit of longevity and having the energy to stay active with your kids?
  • Is it the commitment to a plant-based lifestyle that aligns with your ethical and environmental values?
  • Is it finding the purest, best-tasting protein powder to support your recovery and daily energy?

Most long-term wellness success stories share one defining trait: they deeply understand and appreciate the positive impact their choices—from their workouts to their protein—have on their quality of life.

Take the time to reflect and discover what truly drives you. Once you connect your health choices to a deeper purpose, you won’t need motivation; you’ll have untapped discipline and fulfillment.

If you haven’t been asking yourself already—What is YOUR why for choosing clean?

Achieving Your Summer Body Goals with Proper Nutrition: A Guide

It’s that time of the year again—summertime, when everyone wants to look and feel their best in their swimsuits. If you’re aiming to shed some extra weight and adopt a healthier lifestyle, focusing on your diet is key. As someone who has been guiding clients through their dietary journeys for over 16 years, I understand the importance of balanced nutrition, especially when following a plant-based diet like mine.

Understanding Macros for Balanced Meals

One of the fundamental aspects of a healthy diet is getting the right balance of macronutrients—protein, carbohydrates, and fats. These macros are essential for providing your body with the energy it needs to function optimally throughout the day. For example, a well-balanced lunch could consist of cooked brown rice, broccoli, avocado, and tofu, providing around 30-40 grams each of carbs and protein, and 15-20 grams of fat. This balance ensures you’re getting a variety of nutrients necessary for your body’s needs.

The Role of Protein in Your Diet

Protein plays a crucial role, especially if you’re looking to manage your weight effectively. Many meals and snacks tend to be carb-heavy and lack sufficient protein, which can contribute to weight gain. Incorporating protein-rich foods into your snacks and meals helps in balancing your macros and keeping you satiated longer.

Tips for Healthy Weight Loss

Effective weight loss is not just about cutting calories but also understanding your body’s needs. It’s essential to consume fewer calories than you burn in a day to see results. A healthy rate of weight loss is generally around one to three pounds per week, achievable through a combination of balanced nutrition and regular physical activity.

Practical Advice for Success

Keeping track of what you eat can be an eye-opening experience. Many of my clients are surprised when they start journaling their food intake and realize where adjustments are needed. Remember, achieving your nutrition goals doesn’t have to be complicated. Small changes, like incorporating more vegetables and ensuring balanced macros, can make a significant difference in your overall well-being. Many people will choose a nutritionist or a knowledgeable personal trainer to help create custom meal plans for their body type and lifestyle.

Conclusion

Whether you’re aiming to slim down for the summer or simply adopt healthier eating habits, understanding your macros and making informed food choices is key. By prioritizing balanced nutrition and incorporating protein-rich foods into your diet, you can support your weight management goals effectively. Remember, it’s about nourishing your body with what it needs to thrive.

Do What Works For You

Have you ever tried to do something and couldn’t do it to a T and quit because you weren’t “perfect” with everything you were supposed to do?

I have spent over twenty-five years strength training, competing in MMA, and training individuals for the last 15 years.

Having this experience behind me, I can say fitness is relative to the individual.

For example, I was having a diet conversation with a new client yesterday and going over his habits.

He asked me if he would see the desired results with his current diet.

I informed him that his protein intake was a little low, but he would still see results from what he did without eating more protein.

I told him in an ideal world, yes, he should be getting more protein.

Getting enough protein is a main concern or issue for those on a plant based or vegan diet.

The problem with the ideal scenario for building muscle for this particular client is he is a working professional and most likely doesn’t have the time or inclination to track and eat more protein with his current diet.

Many variables come to play with your level of fitness.

How much sleep you get, your stress levels, and of course, your diet is only three examples.

When was the last time you were on point with all three examples?

If you are like most people, you are not on point with every variable, which is ok.

You’ll have days where you don’t sleep, eat lousy food, and do things that aren’t conducive to your fitness.

Your fitness is a paradigm and is different for everyone.

If you aren’t eating as much protein as you should, it is ok if it is not ideal.

The point is you still try to do your best whatever version of YOUR best is.

Don’t compare yourself to others, and don’t expect yourself to be perfect with everything you should be doing.

Fitness is a practice such as law, martial arts, or medicine.

There is no attainment of perfection, but you are constantly striving to achieve perfection.

That is why you TRY to be a better version of yourself.

If you practice this mindset daily, you are on the right track.

Comfort is a Drug

“Comfort is a drug. Once you get used to it, it becomes addicting. Give a weak person consistent stimulation, good food, cheap entertainment, and they’ll throw their ambitions right out the window. The Comfort zone is where dreams go and die.”

Carl Jung

This quote rings true today with the internet and all the mind-numbing garbage.

From personal experience, some of the best scenarios that have come my way in life have come from willingly putting myself in an uncomfortable position.

If you want to improve yourself in any endeavor, I think it’s safe to say you must step outside your comfort zone.

Change can often be uncomfortable because of the unfamiliar.

When I graduated college and was an analyst for six years, I had to step out of my comfort zone to leave corporate America and started www.fighting4fitness.net.

Stepping in the ring for the first time was out of my comfort zone.

What got me to move out of my comfort zone was the discomfort I felt about not pursuing my passions, and I knew I wouldn’t be happy until I followed them.

This process didn’t happen overnight and has not been an easy journey.

I can say it has been exciting to pursue my dream. I have been physically, financially, and mentally rewarded as a result.

I believe nothing in life that is worthwhile comes easy.

If you have the opportunity in your life to step outside of your box, I encourage you to do so.

Facing the challenge and being uncomfortable is what makes you stronger.

Are You Consistent Enough To Make A Difference?

I earned my black belt in Dec 2015, and due to life circumstances after a year or two, although I was training, it was not under the instructor who black belted me.
Thus he was not there to break down my technique.

Over the last couple of years, the new training dynamic has been bugging me.

So

I decided to show up to my instructor’s early morning class.

Despite us not training together, he heard what I was doing with Jiu-jitsu thru the grapevine.

During my first class back, he surprised me by asking me about getting my 2nd rank as a black belt.

My first reaction was a complete surprise, and I immediately felt I wasn’t worthy to receive the rank.

I immediately told my instructor that I had not been training as much.
He promptly told me that I was still progressing and continuing to spread the art by teaching it to others despite my limited training.

I have always had that outlook with training, not being too concerned with the merit but how training makes you better at what you are training.

Many people tend to focus on the outcome rather than the process that gets you there.

I view diet and training as similar to martial arts.

You see many program tag lines like losing 15 lbs in 30 days or whatever the metric.

My question is, let’s say you lose 15 lbs in 30 days.

Then what?

Do you stop or create another goal that is an adjustment to your original plan that you achieved?

This is the correct mindset if you want to stay with something long-term.
Whether it’s running, weight training, martial arts, or all of the above, I encourage you to find an exercise
that you enjoy.

No matter what the endeavor, consistency is going to be king

You can’t fail if you don’t give up, and if you keep showing up, it will pay you off in ways you least expected.

If consistency has been an issue for you and you want a roadmap to more confidence, energy, and feeling better overall send me a reply how I can help.
